Introspective moments with Olga

Posted by Britt

Keen observations.

Separated at birth?

No word of a lie, it's how Olga thinks Sooke votes. Silly girl. Randall and Wendal have nothing in common. Granted, you have to look beyond skin deep. And the background. And the rhyming first names. After all, understanding politics means going beyond the surface, doesn't it?

Sooke's (Juan de Fuca's) NDP MLA, Randall Garrison

Sooke's Mayor Wendal Milne

(Separated at birth or wha?!)

The power of visualization

Posted by Britt

She had to share the limelight with the Canadian Prime Minister.

The artist of the original piece is Margaret Sutherland. Take a moment to visit her work and look at her other pieces. She can draw slightly better than me [stupid grin]. Oh, and the coffee cup Olga is being served by some guy is from The Stick here in Sooke. Nothing but the BEST for my girl!

Happy mother’s day, mom!

This one goes out to my mom, who had to put up with more than most. At least she still loves me! Grin.

Happy Mother's Day!

Accomplishments in context are not so accomplished after all

Posted by Britt

Our good Sookian mayor boasts, "No new taxes." Well, actually, it's not him saying it, it's the Finance and Administration Committee (FAC) [yawn] speaking on behalf of the "District of Sooke," since the District can't actually speak for itself. Ah yes! not even half a year into his term and, "Let the accountability begin!"

In isolation, zero per cent sounds like a good thing. In actuality, property taxes have nearly doubled since 2006 (which that single year alone saw a 25% tax hike), and while we have a great sewer system and a quarter of a traffic circle (don't ask), we still don't have sidewalks -- or for that matter, even any potted plants, pretty signs, or pretty anything.

It's still a squat ugly little town with healthy bowels, for double the taxes.

The reference to the silly cement barrier is here.

And yes, in spite of all that, I do still love this little town that houses me.

Unclear on the concept, when Sooke Mayor Wendal Milne supports the decriminalization of pot

Posted by Britt

This is in response to the news that our mayor, Wendal Milne, supports the decriminalization of pot. Of course, Olga just hears what she wants to hear. Radical redneck feminism does come at a price, don't you know?!
