Bylaw 600 – Sooke’s very own omnibus bill

Posted by Britt

Well, OK, it's not really an omnibus bill. That was just done for dramatic effect. But this is the sweeping bylaw that impacts the local zoning, which in turn affects all home, land and business owners. I wonder how many of us actually know how much (or little) it impacts us.

Sooke's bylaw 600 - what do we really know?

A whole bunch of people are going to be sorely disappointed when the world doesn't end as scheduled.

Mackenzie Intersection

Posted by Britt

MacKenzie Overpass, Victoria BC

Sigh. West coast politics.

The most recent highway modification was a $24 million conversion from intersection to overpass on the Pat Bay highway, on the exit to theairport. There, you have to navigate not one, not two, but three consecutive traffic circles to do what used to be a simple left hand turn on an advanced green. I used to commute that way. There was no congestion there. But hey, what a fun project.

Meanwhile, on the TransCanada Highway at Mackenzie ... this brutal intersection backs traffic up for kilometers. During rush hour traffic, it can take up to 25 minutes to travel 5 kilometers. And rush hour traffic is eastbound from 5:30am to 9am, and westbound from 2pm to 6pm.

Left alone, this problem can only get better (being facetious)  because contemporary employers caught up to 2002 and beyond let their employees telecommute when possible (being even more facetious).
